It’s first week celebrations now for the Vijay starrer, Mersal blockbuster. The Atlee directed movie has hit the theatres on the Diwali last week and has been enjoying a massive response from the people. The movie was much hyped with big names making their glorified presence in the 100th movie of the veteran production house, Sri Thenandal Films. The star cast of Vijay, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Samantha, Kajal, Nithya and others has been one of the main reasons of the hype surrounding the movie.
Interestingly, this year is also Vijay’s 25th year into the Kollywood industry and with his earlier release this year Bairavaa not a successful one, Mersal is a bigger success reaped for the actor. Thanks to the controversies surrounding the movie, the movie has picked up well even after days of its release. The opening multiplied in Tamil Nadu when the BJP party cadres targeted Vijay’s religious background behind the anti-GST dialogues.
With a huge support wave from Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and various other stars, the movie marches in being the biggest blockbuster of Vijay’s career. Often called the prince of box office, (Ilaya) Thalapathi Vijay is the trendsetter of the modern day movie market for the peninsular. Now, his biggest blockbuster is on the verge of becoming the fifth highest grossing movie in the Kollywood industry.
Rajinikanth – Big Boss
Being a regional language movies, it is not easy for Kollywood movies to compete with the ubiquitous Hindi dominated Indian cinema. However, more often than not, there’s one man in Tamil Nadu who’s found a way to break the jinx. There cannot be wrong predictions on this front, the Superstar himself, Rajinikanth. With the demigod status he enjoys over his dominion, the master thespian is second to none for the past 4 decades. There has been stiff speculations there and then about the box office status of the veteran actor who hardly has a release a year. But, enough of money banked on him, the 67 year old sire is still the Big Boss in the industry.
The first week collection of Mersal is 130 crores and is soon expected to join the elite 200-crore club. But, Rajinikanth already has two movies: Kabali with 499 crores and Enthiran with 289 crores under his belt which is far ahead of the competitions.
