Our lovable Thala Dhoni was nominated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India( BCCI) for Padma Bhushan Award on Wednesday. BCCI feels he is one of the most suitable persons to receive this award.
Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian honor award in our country. “Dhoni has conferred the Padma Shri award in 2009 and he became eligible for the Padma Bhushan a few years ago. Presently there is no other cricketer more deserving than him (Dhoni). We started the formal process 10 days ago’’, says Amitabh Chaudhary, the secretary of BCCI.
If Mahi receives this award, it is not going to be his first prestigious awards.Earlier he was honored by great awards like Padma Shri, Arjuna Award, and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. While Sachin Tendulkar, India’s most celebrated cricket received the Bharat Ratna in 2014, Dhoni is joining the club by grabbing some pride- filled awards.
Col. C.K. Nayudu, Vinoo Mankad, Prof. D.B. Deodhar, Lala Amarnath, Chandu Borde, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Rahul Dravid have been awarded Padma Bhushan initially. We are waiting for Dhoni too to be a part of this list. Dhoni will be the 11th Indian cricketer to hold the third highest civilian honor award if he is selected.
After BCCI understood that the process for the nomination will be closed on September 15, they took a speedy step to nominate former ‘captain cool’ too for the Padma Bhushan award. This decision of nominating Dhoni for Padma Bhushan was an initiative by both Committee of Administrators (CoA) and the BCCI office-bearers.
